The purpose of fracturing the shale formation is to maximize production potential of the well. The material used in fracturing is a mixture of water and proppant, usually sand. | Posted: 09 Oct 2011 10:07 AM PDT Barrel of Oil Equivalent (BOE) is used by oil and gas firms in their financial statements as a method of combining oil and natural gas reserves and production into a single measure. According to USGS, one BOE is roughly equivalent to 6,000 cubic feet (170 cubic meters) of typical natural gas. In short, 1 BOE = 6 MCF or 1 MBOE = 6 MMCF or 1 MMBOE = 6 BCF.
