Petroleum Goodies: Reverse Fault |
Posted: 16 May 2011 10:00 AM PDT Reverse Fault: A type of fault created if the hanging wall fault block steps up alongside a fault surface relative to the footwall. This kind of movement can take place in places where the earth’s crust is compacted. A thrust fault, often called an overthrust if the displacement is especially great, is a reverse fault where the fault plane has a shallow dip, normally less than 45 deg. Commonly used in geology.
