Posted: 04 May 2011 10:00 AM PDT Oil-Base Mud: An emulsion whose continuous phase is oil. Previously, the words described an oil mud made up of lower than about 5 vol.% water. This particular description, at that time, distinguished mud with lower than 5 vol.% water from invert-emulsion oil muds, that had greater than 5 vol.% water.
