Posted: 03 May 2011 10:00 AM PDT P-wave: An elastic body wave or sound wave where particles oscillate in the path the wave develops. P-waves are the waves evaluated in traditional seismic data. P-waves incident on an interface at other than regular incidence can generate reflected and transmitted S-waves, then simply referred to as converted waves. Generally found in geophysics.
